A belief that can really derail us in feeling good about how we look is, “To be beautiful you must be young”. It’s a common belief that comes from unconscious cultural programming. Is it true? I think not.

  1. Develop a sense of who you are: The great thing about aging is, as the years pass and we get older we learn more about our strengths, our weaknesses and ourselves. We’ve had time to try things, to find out where our joy comes from and we’ve accomplished a lot. Start seeing yourself as whole person a person who is more than a face and body.

 

  1. Act young: Women who act young don’t let their age dictate what they can do. For example, they might start a business after 50 or 60. They know age does not limit what they can do if they have the desire and enthusiasm to do it. They keep company with women of all ages. They realize that youthfulness is a state-of-mind.

    Take control of your life: Quit doing things you don’t like and ask yourself why you’re doing them. Whether it’s a job, housework, volunteering, being alone, etc., really think about why you’re doing something you don’t want to do. What do you believe about it? What’s keeping you stuck? Whatever it is and no matter how stuck you might feel there is always a solution. Beauty may or may not be in a jar but beauty is in contentment.

 

  1. Boost your beauty confidence: We automatically take care of what we love. Right? Just think of a person or a possession you really love and how much you take care of it. So, if you’re not taking care of yourself you have to ask why. You can boost your beauty confidence by taking care of your hair, skin, smile and body. A great hairstyle and hair colour are instant confidence boosters. The trick is to learn how to style your hair and do it regularly. The more you do it the easier it gets.

If you’ve always taken care of your skin, great; however, if you haven’t, it’s never too late to start. A few things that affect how your skin looks are exercise, food and stress. Create a regular exercise program, eat lots healthy food and reduce stress.

  1. Appreciate your uniqueness and create a personal style: Contrary to what the media would like us to believe; we don’t have to wear the latest fashions or look a certain way to look great. To really feel and look good it’s necessary to choose styles and colours that bring out your inner beauty and radiance. Manufacturers make clothes in standard sizes designed to fit all body types. In reality, although we are similar we are all different. If you become frustrated getting clothes to fit and have been blaming it on your body, don’t despair, it isn’t you – you just need your clothes altered. Only about 2% of women can wear off-the-rack clothing and look great.

 

  1. Indulge in self-care rituals: Taking care of yourself creates more joy and lightness in your life – which makes you happier and radiate more beauty. Here are a few ideas: Do something just for fun, express your creativity, set boundaries, take a trip, sleep longer, dance, speak kindly to yourself, spend time with friends and children.

 

You have a choice to believe you’re unattractive or see yourself as an ageless beauty. You also have the power to make changes that affect how you look and feel. Isn’t that liberating?
